Weekend in Nashville

For those of you who haven’t been following along on social media, I just returned from Nashville, Tennessee! My friends and I were desperate for a mini vacation and we figured Music City would be the perfect spot! This 4-day weekend was filled with fried chicken, pedal taverns, and honky-tonks. For those mid-western gals like myself who don’t know what a honky-tonk is, it is a bar/club/music hall where country music is played and lots of alcohol is consumed. I think we could use a couple of those here in Milwaukee!

I decided to do a quick recap of my trip and lay out my favorite spots in Nashville. If you’re headed down south any time soon, I highly recommend you check these spots out!

1. Broadway

My trip started exactly where it ended, on a little street called Broadway. Every single bar on Broadway has live music, and most of them are several stories high! We started out at Acme Feed and Seed for some lunch and frozen drinks then made our way down to Honky Tonk Central, Tootsies, and The Stage just to name a few.

2. Belmont Hillsboro

It wouldn’t really be a true girl’s trip if we didn’t do some light retail therapy. I definitely recommend moseying around 12th street to satisfy all of your shopping needs. Here you will run into Draper James (Reese Witherspoon’s shop), a Cupcake ATM, Five Daughter’s Bakery, and several other southern-style boutiques.

3. Belle Meade Mansion

If you’re interested in soaking up a little bit of history while in Nashville, you should make a stop at the Belle Meade Mansion. There are several different tour options, some of which end in a wine tour.

4. FOOD

Question. Why is southern cuisine the most amazing thing on the face of this earth? Fried chicken pulled pork, pimiento mac n cheese, grits, peach cobbler, corn on the cob, the list never ends. I had a fully belly all day every day and I was not mad about it. My favorite spots were Hattie B’s (get there right as the open because the line will be out the door), Martin’s BBQ, City House, The Flipside, and 5th and Taylor.
