Lather, Rinse, Repeat

I started coloring my hair when I was 13 years old, and to this day I’m still not quite sure what my natural color looks like. I remember my very first boxed highlight kit like it was yesterday. It was one of those shower cap kits where you string thin pieces of hair through each individual hole with a hook and lather the cap with putrid, white bleach. I had begged my mom for weeks to let me get highlights because “all the other girls were doing it”. Gotta love the 2000s!

Anyway, my hair has been through hell and back with the amount of chemical and heat damage I have caused. However, after 25 years, I can finally say I am in a happy and healthy relationship with my hair and it’s all thanks to a number of products I have come to love and cherish.

First I’ll start with the basics: shampoo + conditioner. I use J Beverly Hills rescue anti-aging products. This brand can be found at a number of different salons and is especially nice for color-treated hair like mine. After only a few weeks it can completely hydrate and heal any built up damage.

Another favorite product of mine is the Ref Stockholm Sweden colour boost masque. This acts as a leave in conditioner that you can use 2 to 3 times a week. I leave it in for about 5 minutes then rinse out and continue with my normal routine. This has kept my ashy blonde hair vibrant and fresh.

Lastly, but most importantly, is my BB Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil. The Balm-to-oil pre-shampoo masque has quite literally saved my split ends. It’s also super easy to use. Once a week I apply the balm to the ends of my hair for 10-20 minutes before showering. It releases six different oils to moisturize the hair. This a must-have for girls with balayage or ombre ends.

As a final tip, id just like to say that investing in healthier hair all starts with a good salon. Spending a little bit more on a great stylist will benefit you so much more than spending a little bit less on an average stylist. If you live in the Milwaukee are I definitely recommend DiCarlo Salon & Barbershop off of Water Street. The staff is exceptional and the service is top notch. Tell ’em Carson sent ya!
